Aerofugia, a subsidiary of Chinese automaker Geely, unveiled its AE200 eVTOL at the BEYOND International Science and Innovation Expo in Macau on May 10.
Dr. Guo Liang, CEO and Chief Scientist of Aerofugia, attended the event and delivered a speech, during which he outlined how the company’s eVTOL will bring about a whole new, sustainable means of transportation to China.
“The AE200 will offer more choices and better solutions for the rapid development of urban air mobility. Aerofugia will continue to drive the advancement of AAM, innovate constantly and bring greater benefits to people’s lives,” he said.
Aerofugia presented its full-scale eVTOL in August 2022 and completed its first test flight in February 2023.
The Chengdu-based firm kickstarted the type certification process for its AE200 eVTOL in April 2023, while also signing a Project Specific Certification Plan (PSCP) with the China Civil Aviation Southwest Area Management Bureau, a regional aviation bureau under the Civil Aviation Administration Of China (CAAC). The agreement will help accelerate the AE200’s development and pathway to certification.
Speaking to Global Sky Media towards the end of April, Aerofugia described the initiation of the type certification process as a “solid step” towards its 2028 commercialization goal.
The AE200 is a five-seater eVTOL that utilizes a tilt-motor configuration and has been designed to meet the demands of zero-emission travel.
