Archer Announces Manufacturing Facility for eVTOL

Archer Aviation unveiled that it will mass produce its eVTOL, dubbed Midnight, in a manufacturing facility located in Covington, Georgia.

The announcement, which came on November 14, will see the San Jose-headquartered aerospace company build a 350,000-square-foot facility on a 96-acre site and aim to produce up to 650 eVTOLs a year. The site will also create over 1,000 jobs over the long term.

Construction of the facility, which will be located adjacent to Covington Municipal Airport, is expected to begin during the first half of 2024 with initial production to commence in the second half of 2024. The company notes that the facility will be able to be enlarged by an additional 550,000 square feet, capable of increasing production of up to 2,300 aircraft per year.

Archer completed a comprehensive survey of potential sites across the United States during the selection process and looked at factors such as the availability of local talent, construction costs, logistics, and the ability to conduct flight tests.

Georgia-based financial services company Synovus is expected to fund Archer’s project. The company will also receive an incentive package, which includes land conveyance, tax incentives, and a state grant known as Regional Economic Business Assistance.

“After many months of discussion and evaluation, we’re excited to select Georgia as the location for our manufacturing facility,” said Chief Executive Officer of Archer Aviation, Adam Goldstein. “The US has long led the world in aerospace technology, and Georgia has played a vital role in that industry. Our eVTOL technology can transform how urban and rural communities live and commute and this factory can create pathways to highly skilled manufacturing jobs and other ladders of social and economic opportunity.
