Archer Signs Avionics Agreement with Garmin

Aerospace company Archer Aviation has entered into an agreement with Swiss GPS and aviation technology company Garmin, which will supply Archer’s eVTOL with its avionics system used to pilot the aircraft.

The announcement, which was made on November 15, will see Archer’s eVTOL, dubbed Midnight, come with Garmin’s G3000 integrated flight deck, which will offer a large format display and controls that will provide pilots with the situational awareness needed to operate the eVTOL. The integration of Garmin’s avionics will make Archer’s Midnight familiar to a wider range of pilots.

In addition to smart wearables such as smart watches, Garmin also produces avionics systems for general aviation companies, as well as those in business aviation, rotorcraft, advanced air mobility, government and defense, and commercial air carrier customers.

Archer’s partnership with Garmin highlights the aerospace company’s strategy of using components that are already being used on aircraft today, which may expedite the certification process of its eVTOL.

“By aligning Archer’s product sourcing needs with the experience and capabilities of well-established leaders in the aviation industry, we can help reduce our certification risk, as well as development timelines and costs,” said Adam Goldstein, Chief Executive Officer of Archer Aviation. “We’re excited to be adding Garmin to our growing base of world-class suppliers as we pave the way towards commercialization.”

“We are proud of this strategic relationship with Archer Aviation to provide the advanced Garmin G3000 integrated flight deck for their new Midnight aircraft,” said Phil Straub, Garmin Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Aviation. “It is an honor to be selected and trusted by Archer and we are confident the G3000 will help them to provide advanced and efficient air taxi services for years to come.”
