ASKA said it has officially kickstarted type certification with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its A5 drive and fly eVTOL.
The company said it is the first drive and fly eVTOL manufacturer that has started certification progress. Ground testing and full field tests have also started as it edges ever closer to its goal of launching commercial operations.
“March 2023 marked the five-year anniversary of our company and we’re thrilled to have achieved significant milestones with the ASKA™ A5 drive & fly vehicle,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.
“ASKA is the first company to start the type certification process with the FAA as a drive and fly eVTOL. We have already started ground testing and full field tests and we are working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration.”
The A5 eVTOL was unveiled at CES 2023 in January 2023 and is described as the “world’s first” electric vehicle that can travel by road.
The four-seater aircraft can travel a distance of 250 miles at a speed of 150 mph (241 kph). Along with FAA certification, ASKA also plans to “obtain highway certification with a speed of 70 mph while in drive mode” from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
