Eve Confirms Type Certification Process With ANAC

In a new milestone, Eve is to formalize the process of obtaining a Type Certificate for its Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft with the Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC). This means that the company will further comply with international technical standards and mandatory airworthiness requirements.

As per the agreement with ANAC, Eve’s eVTOL certification process is to follow the same path as obtaining a “normal category” aircraft Type Certificate, as required by the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC) number 23, as well as some additional requirements.

“The process aims to achieve the best security standards to allow eVTOL access to the global market. From the regulation perspective, there is much work to be done concerning aircraft technology and the definition of the entire ecosystem. Brazil has the conditions and engagement to deal with this challenge,” states Roberto Honorato, ANAC’s Airworthiness Superintendent.

Eve has conditional orders from 17 customers – with 1,735 aircraft sold at a value of around $5.2 billion. Eve’s financial investors include Azorra Aviation, BAE Systems, Republic Airways, Rolls-Royce, SkyWest, and more.

According to Luiz Felipe R. Valentini, Chief Technology Officer of Eve, “The formalization of the eVTOL certification process is an important step towards the continuity of the discussions that have been held between Eve and ANAC for the vehicle certification for urban mobility.” He further explains, “In addition to demonstrating Eve’s commitment to the development of the project, it allows the institutions to evolve in the definition of the requirements and means of compliance applicable to certification.”

Eve is expecting certification of its eVTOL to be completed before the end of 2025.
