Jekta Signs MoU with Honeywell for PHA-ZE 100

Jekta has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Honeywell to develop a suite of systems to incorporate into the Switzerland-based manufacturer’s 19-seater electrically powered amphibious flying boat.

Under the agreement, which was signed on April 20, 2023, the two parties will agree on the final systems architecture for Jekta’s Passenger Hydro Aircraft Zero Emission 100 (PHA-ZE 100) by the end of 2023.

Honeywell will design and co-develop aeronautical systems for the aircraft, which will enhance its overall safety, sustainability, and operational functionality. Both companies will also discuss Honeywell’s avionics, electric engines, flight control systems, and connectivity. The viability of single-pilot operations for commercial flights will also be assessed.

“Our sustainable airframe represents the most contemporary design and development, and consequently, we want to partner with suppliers renowned for their vision, expertise and flexibility,” George Alafinov, CEO, Jekta. “Honeywell has all these qualities and more. The signing of this MOU is a real vote of confidence for Jekta and the PHA-ZE 100, which will satisfy the travel demands of a whole new generation of passengers seeking affordable, environmentally friendly, regional travel solutions.”

The PHA-ZE 100 amphibious flying boat, will be powered by electric motors with energy from batteries or hydrogen fuel cells and will be able to operate from runways, waterways, coastal waters, and lakes.

Jekta aims to have its PHA-ZE 100 certified under European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) CS-23 and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FAR-23 standards for fixed-wing passenger aircraft.
