Joby Aviation has completed its second stage of certification required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), becoming the first eVTOL company to mark this progress.
The G-2 Means of Compliance (MOC) approval means that the California-based company eVTOL company has met the regulatory intent of the safety rules listed during the first stage G-1 Certification Basis.
Joby said 94% of Means of Compliance have been accepted by the FAA, while the rest remain open for further design changes and improvements.
“Certification is an integral part of everything that an aerospace company does and with the achievement of this critical milestone, we’re now able to confidently focus our efforts on closing the remaining certification plans and completing the testing required to certify our aircraft,” said Didier Papadopoulos, Head of Aircraft OEM, Joby.
The company has also submitted its four area-specific certification plans (ASCPs) and first equipment-level qualification test plan for the third stage of the certification process.
Other than Joby, Archer Aviation has also completed its first stage of certification with the FAA and plans to proceed with the second stage in the second quarter of 2023.
In an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Reality Index released by SMG Consulting in February, Joby gained the highest 8.7 points and ranked first as the most likely company to bring eVTOL into the market.
