PLANA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jeju Air for the development of an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem.
The South Korean eVTOL manufacturer will work with Jeju Air, a low-cost carrier (LCC), to develop AAM business models, Air Operator Certificate (AOC) qualification standards and pilots training.
“It is imperative that we collaborate with Jeju Air, a leader in the LCC business in Korea, to create an AAM ecosystem. Through the collaboration with Jeju Air, we will be able to provide clients the unique experience of long-distance flying services with over 500 kilometers flight range, which has become PLANA AAM’s competitive edge,” said Braden J. Kim, CEO, PLANA.
Kim E-bae, CEO of Jeju Ai believes that the MoU with PLANA will help expand its business model beyond Urban Air Mobility (UAM) to AAM.
AAM builds on the UAM concept of urban transport to include cargo delivery, public services, as well as private and recreational vehicles. An AAM ecosystem is a system of all the stakeholders in the industry from aircraft manufacturers to companies developing flight systems, vertiports and airspace networks.
PLANA is developing hybrid-electric aircraft for long-range travel, which is a unique market focus in the AAM sector. The South Korean startup plans to conduct its subscale eVTOL flight tests later in 2023. Global Sky Media spoke with Braden J. Kim, Chief Executive Officer of PLANA previously on its market strategy for long-distance travel and the challenges that the company is facing before a full commercial entry.
