During the Singapore Airshow, Rolls-Royce announced its partnership with Luxaviation Group to develop Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). More specifically, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties states that Rolls-Royce will provide charging and energy infrastructure, maintenance support services, and digital solutions for Luxaviation’s vertiports.
According to Luxaviation, the company has over 120 VIP terminals around the world to date.
Rob Watson, President of Rolls Royce Electrical, explains “As part of our strategy, we are looking to ensure we understand how we can deliver maintenance and services for these new aircraft building on our existing MRO and analytics capabilities.”
Christophe Lapierre, Luxaviation’s Head of Strategy and President of Business Aviation Support Services added “Our common vision to enable early adoption by leveraging existing capabilities places this partnership sat an advanced position, considerably pushing the evolution of this new industry segment. Our concept is to provide a solution that is agile and in continuous evolution to scale up Advance Air Mobility operations alongside regulatory development pace and market demand.”
The first step of this partnership will see the creation of a pilot project outlining electrical solutions for Luxaviation’s vertiports.
Rolls-Royce has also previously worked with UK-based Vertical Aerospace, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) developer. The company helped design Vertical Aerospace’s electric propulsion system in order to power its five-seat aircraft.
According to Asian Sky Media’s 2020 Helicopter Fleet Report, Rolls-Royce remains the third most popular engine OEM with 1,546 engines, accounting for 24% of the total engine OEM market share.
