Safran Electrical & Power (Safran) will collaborate with AURA AERO on its INTEGRAL E training aircraft (INTEGRAL E) and its Electric Regional Aircraft (ERA).
AURA AERO, based at Toulouse Francazal Airport, focuses on designing, manufacturing, and operating low carbon emission aircraft.
Safran will supply the propulsion system for the INTEGRAL E. The company also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AURA AERO to work on electrical studies for ERA. The studies will center on the high direct voltage propulsive architecture needed for electric engines.
“In every way, these projects are in line with our strategic aims: they feature breakthrough technologies, have a low-carbon footprint and are electrically powered. This agreement bolsters our position as a key player in the fields of equipment electrification and electric and hybrid propulsion,” states Hervé Blanc, General Manager & Executive Vice President of the Power division of Safran.
AURA AERO estimates that it will receive around 60 orders for the INTEGRAL E, which is expected to fly for the first time in 2022 and gain European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification in 2023.
The ERA will have its first flight in 2024, with commercial services starting in 2027.
Asian Sky Media recently spoke with Safran about celebrating more than 30 years in Asia.
According to Asian Sky Media’s 2021 Asia-Pacific Civil Helicopter Report, Safran remains the most popular engine original engine manufacturer (OEM) in the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for 2,270 engines.
