South Korea Demonstrates Two eVTOLs

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport sponsored an event held at Ara Marina, a waterfront complex in Gimpo city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, which included a flight demonstration of two domestically-produced eVTOL aircraft.

The one-seat vehicles operated unmanned at the event were the V Speeder of Incheon-based V Space and the Skyla-V2 of Gyeonggi-based Voltline.

The V Speeder is said to have a maximum take-off weight of 250 kg, and can fly for 15 minutes at speeds of up to 95 km/h, while the Skyla-V2 has a maximum takeoff weight of 300 kg, and can operate at speeds of up to 20 minutes at 90 km/h, according to official specifications.

There was also a display aimed at proving to the public that vertiports can be located on rooftops in city centers in order to create more convenient transportation networks.

“UAM is a game changer for urban traffic that will allow people to escape increasingly congested roads and to use the sky roads. We will actively play our role as the government in areas such as the promotion of pilot projects, enactment of special regulations, R&D to enhance technological competitiveness, and international cooperation,” said Won Hee-ryong, Land, South Korea’s Infrastructure and Transport Minister, who presided over the event.
