Supernal, the eVTOL producer under Hyundai Motor Group, has joined forces with radar platform company Echodyne to enhance safety across the advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem.
The two parties will determine how to leverage Echodyne’s radar solutions in Supernal’s electric aircraft and ground-based infrastructure, such as vertiports.
Echodyne’s radar system, once installed on Supernal’s eVTOLs, will provide all-weather airspace monitoring and real-time data to ensure greater safety in the air.
“Echodyne offers unique radar-based detection capabilities that Supernal can utilize in Advanced Air Mobility development,” said Supernal’s chief technology officer Ben Diachun. “Resilient and powerful radar aids airborne situational awareness to improve safety in the air.”
Eben Frankenberg, CEO of Washington-based Echodyne, praised Supernal for sharing the “‘safety above all’ mentality” his company possesses.
“As their team continues to shape the future of the Advanced Air Mobility market, we are pleased Supernal recognizes the value of radar as they track towards market entry,” he said.
Also based in Washington, Supernal is developing its eVTOL and plans to launch it commercially by 2028. Earlier this month, the Hyundai subsidiary’s cabin concept of its electric aircraft won a product design award from the International Forum (iF) Design Award.
To commercialize its eVTOLS, the company also partnered with Microsoft to develop AAM technology in January.
