Textron Acquires Pipistrel

Textron announced it has completed its acquisition of electric aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel.

Pipistrel now has access to more resources, expertise, and a global sales network. This will speed up the development and certification of its electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.

Textron purchased Pipistrel for approximately € 218 million.

Pipistrel will offer sustainable aircraft for urban air mobility (UAM), general aviation, cargo and special mission roles as part of Textron’s newest business division, Textron eAviation.

“With Pipistrel, we have the opportunity to take an already great aircraft manufacturer and make it greater still,” states Textron eAviation CEO Rob Scholl.

The company will remain a distinct aviation brand within Textron. All headquarters, research and development, and manufacturing will remain in Slovenia and Italy.

Textron previously announced the return of its Cessna Turbo Skylane to its product lineup, after almost a decade of hiatus.

According to Asian Sky Media’s 2020 Business Jet Fleet Report, Textron’s most popular aircraft remains the Citation 560XL, with 39 jets in its fleet.
