UrbanV Showcases Rome Vertiport

UrbanV, the advanced air mobility (AAM) infrastructure developer, unveiled the vertiport it built in Rome as it looks to support the establishment of a fully-fledged ecosystem in Italy.

The infrastructure project at Fiumicino Airport was developed in collaboration with Aeroporti di Roma, which owns UrbanV.

Over 100 delegates from the Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS) and regional aviation safety authorities were present during the presentation ceremony. The delegation was led by Giovanni Di Antonio, Innovation Technology Director of Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC – Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile – and Chair of JARUS.

The vertiport is part of a wider AAM initiative in Italy being spearheaded by ENAC that aims to integrate eVTOL air taxis and drones into everyday life by 2030.

Aside from the erection of the necessary infrastructure, the roadmap also highlights the need to “test processes, technologies and scenarios” for the seamless implementation of air taxis and unmanned operations in Italy.
