The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has signed a Declaration of Cooperation with the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) to support advanced air mobility (AAM) certification and operations. The partnership comes as regulators around the world are recognizing the potential of AAM while taking steps to support its development.
The two regulatory authorities will formalize ongoing discussions on certifying and validating new AAM aircraft, production, continued airworthiness, operations, and personnel licensing.
“The FAA and the JCAB have enjoyed a long and strong working relationship, and that will extend into this new era of aviation,” said Billy Nolen, Acting Administrator, FAA. “Close collaboration with our international partners is critical to successfully and safely integrating these new technologies.”
The FAA has partnered with the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in the National Aviation Authorities Network on facilitating certification and integration plans.
