The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on January 9 that it has agreed to partner with the Korea Office of Civil Aviation (KOCA) on the development and operations of future air taxis.
The two sides will work together on advanced air mobility (AAM) projects, share insights regarding technology and promote the safety oversight of the industry.
“Collaborating with our international partners on safely integrating these new technologies will create more efficient, sustainable and equitable transportation options,” said Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen.
The FAA has already partnered with the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for similar AAM projects when airlines and startup companies are investing and developing aircraft that can be used for short-haul air transportation between cities. The FAA has also signed a Declaration of Cooperation with the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) to support AAM certification and operations.
The partnership comes as regulators around the world are recognizing the potential of AAM while taking steps to support its development.
