Vertical and Hanwha To Work On Electric Mechanical Actuator

Vertical Aerospace and Hanwha Aerospace are collaborating to launch a joint development program to manufacture the electromechanical actuators for Vertical’s aircraft.

The partnership will also cover the title and pitch control for the aircraft propellors, as well as surface actuation on its wings and V-tail.

This will enable Vertical’s VX4 aircraft to meet safety levels set for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.

“This partnership will help ensure that the VX4 achieves the highest safety, reliability, and performance standards and that we can scale the programme to meet the demand of our market-leading pre-order book by value,” says Michael Cervenka, President of Vertical.

Vertical has a pre-order book by value for more than 1,400 customers, including Virgin Atlantic, Avolon, Japan Airlines (JAL), Bristow, and more.

Vertical recently continued its partnership with GKN Aerospace to develop the VS4’s electrical wiring interconnection system (EWIS) and electric propulsion units (EPU).
