Diehl Aerospace, a joint venture between Thales and Diehl Aviation, is expanding its cooperation with Volocopter.
Diehl Aerospace was tasked with developing and producing the optical splitter for the flight control system of Volocopter’s VoloCity aircraft. It also made components for VoloCity’s battery management system.
The optical splitter helps provide control information to VoloCity’s rotors. It is immune to electromagnetic interference, a key safety issue for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
The company is also creating the Data Concentration Unit (DCU) for Volocopter.
“We are excited to further expand our partnership with Volocopter, an innovative pioneer in the UAM market, bringing our many years of experience and expertise in flight control systems to the table,” states Florian Maier, CEO of Diehl Aerospace.
Diehl Aerospace previously established both primary and backup Flight Control Computer (FCC) for the VoloCity.
Volocopter recently joined the ILA Berlin 2022 trade show in Germany.
