Airbus Announces New eVTOL Test Centre

Airbus Helicopters has built a test centre for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the CityAirbus NextGen. The Centre is in Donauwörth, Germany.

It will be used to test the systems of eVTOLs, and has a surface area of 1,000 m2.

The opening ceremony was attended by Anna Christmann, the Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy.

“Urban Air Mobility will change the way we travel in cities and beyond and it will be a new pillar of business for Airbus. Donauwörth plays an important role in the development and construction of CityAirbus NextGen,” says Wolfgang Schoder, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Germany.

All tests before the CityAirbus NextGen’s maiden flight will be carried out in the facility.

The building is slated to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.

Airbus previously worked with KLK Motorsport and Modell-und Formenbau Blasium Gerg GmbH to develop the rear structure of its eVTOL.
