As the aviation industry has committed to going carbon neutral by 2050, awareness of sustainable flights has been raised in the industry.
4Air, a rating system that focuses on sustainability in private aviation reported helping private jet owners, operators and passengers offset or reduce more than 1 million metric tons of CO2.
Below are the achievements reported by 4AIR:
Reduced the impact of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by jets during flights, by facilitating more than 250,000 carbon-neutral flight hours
Offset more than 80,000 emissions-neutral flight hours, including non-carbon emissions that affect the climate such as soot, water vapor, and contrails
Made more than 125 million carbon neutral flight miles possible
“Climate change is the greatest sustainability challenge we face, and it is critical that we do everything we can to offset or reduce emissions of CO2 and other pollutants that affect the climate,” said 4AIR President Kennedy Ricci. “Our goal is to help aviation stakeholders become part of the solution to climate change, and the strong response to our programs during 2021 convinces us that aviation is willing to be a leader in the sustainability space.”
During its first year, 4AIR launched the rating programs to promote sustainability through carbon neutrality, emissions neutrality, and emissions reduction through measures such as SAF. Its programs have attracted participation from stakeholders across the private aviation sector. These include fractional, jet card, and charter travel providers as well as aircraft management companies, corporate flight departments, individuals, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), airports, and fixed-base operators (FBOs).
