Boeing will establish a research and development facility in Japan, to advance electric and hydrogen aircraft technology, as well as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The facility will also focus on robotics, digitalization, automation, and carbon fiber composite materials for the aviation industry.
To solve the serious pollution and emission problems in the aviation industry, innovative, sustainable and disruptive technologies are needed. In response, Boeing says the industry needs to make huge investments in SAF because its raw materials such as animal fats and cooking oils are currently in short supply and is more expensive than traditional aviation fuels.
