IBAC and ICAO Team Up to Promote Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) has partnered with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in an initiative to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The Assistance, Capacity-building, and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels initiative (ACT-SAF) initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aircraft and promote the use of renewable or waste-derived aviation fuels that meet sustainability criteria.

Kurt Edwards, IBAC Director General signed an agreement with ICAO’s Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar on March 29 at ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

“The business aviation sector is known for innovation. We look forward to working with ICAO and other ACT-SAF participants to expand the development and use of SAF — a proven, cutting-edge technology — in greater quantities for use by all operators around the world,” said IBAC Director General Kurt Edwards.

IBAC will provide technical expertise and information to ensure that business aviation is appropriately included when Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) are developed.

The partnership comes as the business aviation industry is working towards a net-zero carbon emissions target, with a focus on reducing emissions at source through SAF, innovative propulsion technologies, and other efficiency improvements.
