Marathon Airlines, the provider of charter flights, has grown its fleet of Embraer aircraft after taking delivery of its first E190 jet.
Marathon took ownership of the E190 at Athens International Airport on May 27, which has the registration of SX-PTM and will be the largest aircraft in the company’s fleet.
The Greece-based firm now has a total of five Embraer aircraft in service, including three E175s and a Legacy 600/ERJ-135 jet. The E190 has been designed to accommodate 96 passengers, and Marathon has expressed its intention to procure an additional E175.
Having been delivered by Embraer in 2008 to the now-defunct Swiss company Baboo, the E190 jet has been in operation for 15 years. The aircraft was subsequently transferred to Trip Linhas Aéreas, a Brazilian carrier that was established in 2013 and later acquired by Azul Linhas Aéreas.
Established in 2017, Marathon offers seasonal charter flights from Athens to locations in Greece with high tourist demand. The company also provides services to destinations in Austria, Italy, and Libya, as well as wet-lease services that entail the provision of a full crew for other carriers.
