The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) welcomed the release of an omnibus funding bill that hopes to support sustainable aviation and advanced air mobility (AAM) operations in the US.
It is reported that the US Senate passed the bill on December 22, one day ahead of the deadline, which will need to be voted by the House before being ultimately signed into law by US President Joe Biden.
“We commend House and Senate leadership and members for their work on this bill and their steadfast recognition of the importance of ensuring that aviation continues to be even more safe, secure, innovative and sustainable than ever,” said Ed Bolen, President and Chief Executive Officer, NBAA.
The omnibus measures offer US$68 million to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions, and Noise (CLEEN) program and increase the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to reduce CO2 emissions.
The grants also call on the US Department of Transportation to work with local governments and companies in drawing a roadmap to build AAM infrastructure among other incentives to support a wide range of transportation and infrastructure enhancement projects.
Congressional support to protect flight privacy is reaffirmed in the bill, and an additional US$559 million will be allocated to the FAA for discretionary airport improvement grants and projects.
