Textron Aviation’s Cessna division has launched a maritime patrol version of its Citation Longitude business jet.
In its normal configuration, the Longitude would carry up to 12 passengers in fully berthable seats, however the maritime patrol version removes several seats in favour of mission consoles for two dedicated operators.
Exteranlly the Longitude differs from the passengers version by having a transmissive radome fitted onto the underside of the fuselage, whilst the rear fuselage is fitted Electro-Optical/Infra-Red EO-IR sensor lift, which allows sensors to be dropped and retrieved from the aircraft.
Alongside the mission consoles, customers for the Longitude MPA can choose to have optional night vision google compatible lighting, which Textron says means that the aircraft is ideal for surveillance missions over land and water.
“The Cessna Citation Longitude jet provides an excellent value for Special Mission operations due to its acquisition cost and operation cost combined with excellent speed, range and payload capacity,” said Bob Gibbs, vice president, Special Mission Sales, Textron Aviation. “Textron Aviation has developed and had certified factory provisions for various mission equipment supporting maritime patrol and surveillance missions, maximizing value for operations worldwide.”
The maritime patrol sector has been heating up recently, with Dassault’s Falcon 2000MPA platform winning domestic and international orders, the most recent of which was from South Korea, which ordered several examples to replace its current Hawker 800-based fleet.
