Canada’s TSB Reports Zero Fatal Business Jet Accidents in 2021

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) reported no fatal business jet accidents in 2021, but did record 32 fatalities in other categories.

A total of 190 air transportation accidents were registered in 2021, 12% higher than the previous year’s total of 170. Amongst them, over 90% took place in Canada or involved Canadian-registered aircraft.

Eight of the fatalities involved commercial operations, one in an air-taxi accident of a turbine helicopter and seven in aerial work accidents, while the remaining 24 were linked to privately registered aircraft and involved recreational operators.

The last business jet accident happened in 2016 when a Cessna Citation 500 carrying four people crashed shortly after departure.

Overall, the number of air transportation accidents has been decreasing in the last decade.
