Bristow Agrees to Buy Six AW139s

Bristow has agreed to buy six AW139 helicopters from Leonardo to support its Second-Generation Search and Rescue (SAR) Aviation program.

The newly added aircraft for the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) program will join Bristow’s fleet of nine AW189s and bring its total fleet of Leonardo helicopters to nearly 100.

The latest AW139s feature new two-engine rotors, and have a higher maximum take-off weight, and also include features such as a synthetic vision system as well as maps and wireless data loading. They will be delivered within the next two years.

“This latest step supporting our key partner Bristow to meet major users’ needs is further testament to the outstanding capabilities of our best-selling AW139 as the aircraft of choice in its category for SAR among prime operators and countries. It perfectly complements the medium to long range SAR capabilities of the AW189 delivering unparalleled combined capabilities for the task,” said Gian Piero Cutillo, Managing Director, Leonardo Helicopters.

The helicopter service provider has been using a wide range of Leonardo helicopters including the AW119 single engine, AW109 light twin, AW139 intermediate twin and AW189 super medium.
