Korea Aerospace Industries Delivers First LCH Helicopter

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) recently delivered its first light civil helicopter (LCH), a locally updated version of the Airbus Helicopter H155. It was delivered to local operator Gloria Aviation which will launch service in Jeju in December.

As part of their joint collaboration on Seoul’s LCH and Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) programs, Airbus Helicopters has effectively transferred production of the model to its Korean partner.

“KAI has been a long-term partner to Airbus on several strategic helicopter development programs. We are pleased to celebrate the first LCH delivery which will, with the upcoming LAH qualification, kick-start a new chapter for our partnership as we enter the serial production phase,” said Bruno Even, Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Helicopters.

The two companies collaborated on the development programs of LCH and LAH, the next generation of 5-ton helicopters, back in 2015. The LCH completed its first flight in July 2019, and in addition to its first use in emergency medical services, the helicopter will be able to be deployed in public service missions such as rescue, utilities, law enforcement and firefighting.

KAI, Korea’s most important aerospace company, was established in 1999. It currently manufactures helicopters, general aviation aircraft, fighter jets and satellites.
