Leonardo Receives Order for Two AW109 Helicopters

Leonardo has received orders for one AW109 GrandNew and one AW109 Trekker from Sloane, its UK and Ireland regional distributor.

The order for the two light twin helicopters was made official at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We are proud to further strengthen our longstanding partnership with Leonardo through the order of two more airframes,” David George, Chairman of Sloane Helicopters, said. “With eight new helicopters delivered since the last EBACE and more to come, this rapid expansion exemplifies Sloane’s commitment to both the Leonardo products and growth of the UK and Ireland helicopter market.

“The addition of these two airframes further solidifies Leonardo’s position as the leading helicopter manufacturer in the VIP/Corporate market and we are honored to play a key role in this attainment.”

Leonardo and Sloane confirmed a Distributor Agreement for the 2022 to 2024 period in July 2022. The agreement covers both types of AW109s and the AW169 light intermediate twin model as well. The collaboration between the two parties started in 1995 and has seen Leonardo deliver nearly 110 commercial helicopters to operators and private users in the UK and Ireland.

Over the last 12 months, Leonardo has received orders for nearly 15 helicopters in the UK and Ireland, including a mix of AW109 GrandNew and AW109 Trekker helicopters and five AW139 intermediate twins. All the deliveries are expected to take place between the second half of 2023 and 2025.
