Lilium Chooses Astronics to Power Distribution Systems

Lilium is collaborating with leading aerospace electronics company Astronics to design and build the Lilium Jet’s electrical power distribution system.

Astronics will oversee the aircraft’s secondary power distribution units (SPDUs) and charging power distribution units (CPDUs).

The Lilium Jet will be fitted with two SPDUs and a CPDUs. The SPDUs make sure a reliable supply of power reaches the aircraft’s systems from its batteries.

The CPDUs control how the battery charges. It also ensures safety by keeping track of insulation and reporting short-circuiting risks.

According to Martin Schuebel, Senior Vice President Procurement at Lilium, “Astronics is our ideal partner for this very important component of our aircraft. It is our intention to collaborate with the best aerospace suppliers and leverage their expertise. Astronics’ expertise is unique, and their collaborative approach makes them a perfect match for us. The partnership will also help pave the way for the coming industrial ramp-up.”

“This partnership demonstrates the flexibility of our products and our close collaboration with our customers,” states Jon Neal, President of Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems.

This partnership highlights another key milestone in developing the Lilium Jet.

Recently, Lilium also worked with Expliseat to create the passenger seats for its aircraft.
