Textron to Purchase Pipistrel

Textron will acquire Slovenia-based light aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel. The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter of 2022.

The acquisition will support Textron’s strategy of offering a family of sustainable aircraft for urban air mobility (UAM), general aviation, cargo, and other special missions.

Through the transaction, Pipistrel will have more resources to speed up the development and certification of its electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.

Textron has plans to form a new business division called Textron eAviation, which will focus on flying sustainably.

Textron previously achieved certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its Cessna SkyCourier plane.

According to Asian Sky Media’s 2020 Business Jet Fleet Report, Textron has a fleet of 298 aircraft, making up 24% of the market in the Asia-Pacific region. Its largest fleet remains in Australia, with a total of 78 aircraft.
