Verizon’s Flight Department Gains IS-BAO Certification

US telecommunications provider Verizon’s flight department has been registered under the International Standards for Business Aviation Operations (IS-BAO) Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) program.

The department, operating as the company’s unmanned aircraft system (UAS) branch, is the first one to achieve IS-BAO registration and the second US drone operator to be registered under RPAS for its commercial drone program.

“The IS-BAO framework is a proven model demonstrating the safety and efficiency of a company’s flight operation,” said Andrew Karas, IS-BAO Director for IBAC. “Registration under RPAS illustrates to stakeholders and the public their commitment to maintaining operational safety.”

Verizon has recorded more than 17,000 UAS flights since 2016. Karas said this important step serves as its continued expansion and refinement of its commercial drone program.

Verizon’s corporate flight department also operates four Gulfstream private jets, including two G450s and two G550s.
