Vertical Aerospace Collaborates with Molicel on Vx4 Batteries

Vertical Aerospace has partnered with battery manufacturer E-One Moli Energy Corp (Molicel) to supply high-power cylindrical cells for Vertical’s VX4 aircraft.

The partnership will integrate Molicel’s technology with Vertical’s battery pack design.

As battery cells are key components of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Vertical believes Molicel can meet the performance and safety requirements necessary to operate the VX4. The parties aim to ensure the battery cells and their systems result in an aircraft that is reliable and high performing.

“The future of electric aviation is dependent on safe, high-performance battery systems and fundamental to this is the battery cells themselves. That’s why I am delighted to be partnering with Molicel, producer of the world’s highest power cells” states Stephen Fitzpatrick, Vertical’s Founder and CEO.

The battery cells are planned to be certified simultaneously by the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Vertical is targeting a 2025 launch for its eVTOLs.

Recently, Vertical joined a partnership to bring eVTOL operations to Brazil.
