Volkswagen Group China Unveils First eVTOL Prototype

Volkswagen Group China has showcased its first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) passenger drone prototype. The prototype is called the V.M.O.

The company aims to explore new ground in electric and sustainable mobility concepts.

“The launch of this stunning validation model – the V.M.O – is the first of many remarkable milestones on our exciting journey towards urban air travel, and a perfect example of our ‘From China, For China’ mission. Our long-term aim is to industrialize this concept and, like a ‘Flying Tiger’, break new ground in this emerging and fast-evolving new mobility market,” says Dr. Stephen Wöllenstein.

The final version of the eVTOL is believed to be able to carry four passengers plus luggage, over a distance of up to 200km.

The group is planning to conduct several flight tests later in the year, with another improved prototype performing test flights in the late summer of 2023.
