VoltAero Partners with Safran to Equip the Cassio 330 Prototype

VoltAero’s prototype Cassio 330 will use Safran’s ENGINeUS™ 100 smart electric motor for its electric-hybrid propulsion system.

The agreement was signed during the 2022 Farnborough Air Show.

Safran will deliver its motor before year-end in order to test the endurance of the Cassio’s electric-hybrid propulsion system.

“Cassio will benefit from the high-power density and proven technology that Safran Electrical & Power has applied in its ENGINeUS™ electric motor product line,” says Jean Botti, VoltAero’s CEO and Chief Technology Officer.

Certification for the electric motor is slated to be in mid-2023.

The electric-hybrid propulsion system will be placed in the aircraft’s aft fuselage.

“This is another success for our ENGINeUS™ range of engines, ideally positioned in the general aviation market for electric aircraft, and it represents a further step towards zero-emission airplanes,” states Bruno Bellanger, Safran Electrical & Power’s Executive Vice president and General Manager for Power division.
